Additional Information
Celexa Description - Why is Celexa prescribed?
Celexa is also known generically as Citalopram and is used to treat depression. Celexa is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) which helps to improve certain mood problems by restoring the balance of serotonin, a natural substance in the brain.
Celexa Indications
Some medical conditions and medications may interact with Celexa. It is important to tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any existing or pre-existing medical conditions including (but not limited to) pregnancy, bipolar disorder (manic-depression), seizures, liver or kidney problems, stomach or bowel bleeding, metabolism or dehydration problems, low blood sodium levels or will be having electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). Also, if you have any history of mental or mood problems, suicidal thoughts or attempts, or alcohol or substance abuse, you should consult your health care professional to see if Celexa is right for you. Celexa should also not be used if you have allergies to any ingredient in Celexa or if you are taking or have taken escitalopram, a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) (eg, phenelzine), selegiline, a fenfluramine derivative (eg, dexfenfluramine), an H1 antagonist (eg, astemizole, terfenadine), nefazodone, pimozide, sibutramine or St. John's wort within the last 14 days.
Celexa Side Effects
Common Celexa side effects include diarrhea, nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, loss of appetite, dry mouth, stuffy nose, tiredness, increased sweating and decreased sexual desire or ability.
