Klonopin Description - Why is Klonopin prescribed?
Klonopin is also sold by the generic name Clonazepam and is prescribed for controlling some varieties of seizures in epilepsy treatment and for the treatment of panic disorders. Klonopin is what's known as a benzodiazepine, which increases the activity of a naturally occurring chemical in the brain to give balance to a patients normal brain function.
Klonopin Indications
You should avoid Klonopin if you have allergies to any ingredient in Klonopin, have a severe mental disorder, are affected by acute angle glaucoma or severe liver or kidney problems and if you are taking GHB (sodium oxybate). Klonopin is also not recommended if you have myasthenia gravis, porphyria, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or any other breathing problems. Some other medications may interact negatively with Klonopin, including (but not limited to) anti-fungals (such as fluconazole, nefazodone, disulfiram and omeprazole), Rifampin, St. John's wort, or valproic acid. It is not recommended you combine Klonopin with Clozapine due to dangerous side effects, including confusion, sedation, unsteady movements, lightheadedness, difficulty breathing, drowsiness or coma. It is not recommended you suddenly stop taking Klonopin due to its dependent or addictive nature. If you suddenly stop taking Klonopin, you can experience WITHDRAWAL symptoms which may include anxiety, depression, hallucinations, personality changes, seizures, insomnia or stomach and muscle cramps.

Klonopin may cause mild side effects including constipation, bed wetting, clumsiness, confusion, depression, dizziness, daytime drowsiness, frequent night time urination, headache, loss of appetite and runny nose. More severe allergic reactions are rare but can include chest congestion and upper respiratory tract secretions, hostility, hallucinations, hysteria, memory loss, shortness of breath and/or tremor.
